#NewMusic Video by VP Records @EtanaStrongOne “I Rise”

etana

From VP Records out of FL and Jamaica is Etana latest video “I Rise” directed by Scorpio21. She chose the name Etana, which means ‘the strong one’ in Swahili; her strength was manifested, this time around, by pursuing a musical career strictly on her own terms. Etana’s elegantly modest Rasta-chic sartorial style is as distinctive as her sound: an audacious fusion of folk, soul, jazz and reggae supporting a powerful vocal range suggestive of the ancestral spirit of South Africa’s Miriam Makeba, the regality of reggae queen Marcia Griffiths and the soulful verve of Etta James. “I looked at how women were being represented in (Jamaican) music and how little girls think that is the way it is supposed to be, and I wanted to be a positive influence and change some of the things they are taught,” Etana reflected. Etana has also been an advocate and activist for impoverished children in Jamaica and battered girls through her charity organization the “JUST ONE FOUNDATION”. Etana has been actively offering her services and time to various charity organizations in Jamaica, raising funds toward alleviating the problem of poverty in Jamaican garrison communities. A true ambassador for Reggae music and female in the music industry, she is relentless in spreading her message of “unconditional love” through positive music with the hope of uplifting her audience from any situation that render them weak or hopeless. Prepare yourself for the Etana Experience!

New Video from @tialaflare aka Tia Nomore “Suck It Easy”

tia nomore

Straight out of Oakland is lil miss sassy Tia Nomore who states on her bandcamp, “i just record when i can and write all the time.”  FF first discovered her on Soundcloud (which we are truly upset was just bought by Warner Music) with her song  “Or Nah” featuring Kehlani which has over 340K plays. We love the fact that she isn’t trying to impress, just raw emotions for us when she feels like it. It takes the pressure off and allows the artists to just create when motivated, right? In the beginning she dropped 13th Grade which included 11 tracks some experimental, some in the pure essence of hiphop. Needless to say, she is def someone to check lyric wise as well as the producers she is working with is equally dope. But you let us know your thought… Tweet us @FemaleFlowMusic

saroc

Sa-Roc The MC hails from the southeastern area of Washington DC, a city that’s a mashup of poverty stricken hoods, a strong radical movement, and a fierce loyalty to cultural preservation. This is the cocoon from which Saroc was birthed and bred. Sa-Roc has recorded songs with Jay Electronica, Nappy Roots, Afrika Bambataa and Stic.Man of dead prez.

A product of Afrikan-centered parents, Saroc developed a rebel mentality from an early age. She grew up on the music of Jimi Hendrix, Gil Scott Heron, and Earth,Wind & Fire. Her musical soundtrack was a klash of sounds, from gogo, to rock, to hip hop. This foundation began an aural quest for different sounds and concepts in music. It wasn’t until 2002, when Sa-Roc met Atlanta producer Sol Messiah, that she began her love affair with the mic. as well as developed a sound that was 1 part hood poetry, 2 parts otherworldly, and totally new and fresh. From subject matter ranging from melanin to pyramids, Saroc spits metaphysical ideas over melodic hip hop beats, seeking to fuse knowledge of self with great music. She seeks to create not just a couple of albums, but a full-fledged musical movement. A cultural griot, Saroc intends to reinstate the art of emceeing to its former glory, passing down the legacy 1 sixteen at a time.

And don’t miss the fresh remix…  “DC X ATLIENS” Produced by Organized Noize

#NewVideo – @3DNATEE – “We Made It” Remix

3dnatee 3dnatee B

In her own words, “I linked up with Quincy Scott, a 20 year old director/editor from New Orleans, for the visual that we shot back at home. It’s public knowledge that I recently signed a deal with Russell Simmons’ All Def Music record label backed with distribution from Universal Records. When people heard the news, naturally the expected me flash money on Instagram, go and purchase a new car, or do some other flashy shxt to prove that I recently reached a new tax bracket. And although I’m richer than I’ve ever been, that’s not the reason I feel like I made it. I’m still driving the same Dodge and drinking 3D Na’Tee Daiquiris instead of Dusse and Ace of Spades. “She Made It,” or at least she’s on her way to making it, because she did it her way. And that my friends, is the coldest feeling ever.”

#LYRICS
07 I was pedaling dope out my Tahoe/
married to medicine like the chicks off of Bravo
Used to spend my days pducking 5.0
Now I be out in LA doing Tabo
Did a deal/ I’m worth but I’m still strapped though
I guess I gotta buy a chain and a whip according to the black folks
I guess I gotta do it for the gram/ for the cam/ and spend a stack?/ NO
What the phuck I look like?/ that ain’t what I rap for
But I did it/ yeah I did it
Started shxtting on these bxtches y’all thought I was kidding
Told universal cut the cut the check/ Think I got a victim
Now I’m doing everything that I envisioned
To my admission/ I ain’t never have a pot to piss in…

#Video – “Competative Foursome” challenges our idea of a simple quartet

As women we are always challenging the norm. I recently saw this video which is from a musical competition inspired by movie “Salut Salon” directed by Ralph Pleger and song “Summer” composed by Antonio Vivaldi. They start off competitive but eventually work together as a quartet to make some pretty interesting music happen in an almost acrobatical way. Not your run-of-the-mill orchestra set…. but definitely inspiring.
