The Re-Upload of Female Flow Vol. 1

pink phone

Call your best friend and tell them the news! 5 years ago Volume 1 of Female Flow dropped and changed the level of attention that folks were giving indie female artists. From Nikki Grier to Tina B (now Tina World Order) there is some fire on this one that still bumps – FIVE YEARS LATER. Since then many have tried to follow suit but no one did it like us. Despite the pause we haven’t left, we haven’t stopped supporting the ladies on the mic, on the stages or behind the boards – just check our  Instagram!

Cat Power has 9 lives….

This isn’t brand new, but it may be new to you. Born Charlyn Marie “Chan” Marshall now going by an old name of her band, Cat Power this American artists sound can be explained as a “mix of punk, folk and blues”. Discovered in the mid 90’s she has always kept music close to her. She also stays busy with other hobbies and interests such as advertising, fashion and charity work. Like many she has struggled with relationships and drug abuse but has recently had a child. Needless to say her story is interesting and amazing. We look forward to hearing more from you Cat Powers.

Airling isn’t “Stallin” with her new song about a boy.

Autosave-File vom d-lab2/3 der AgfaPhoto GmbH

From the bottom of the globe hours from me is a smooth songstress named Airling. This Australian looks like your girl-next-door until she her voicebox begins to release hypnotizing and soothing sounds. She came out with a project last year but right now we are talking about “Stallin”, a song about letting go of her boyfriend.

“I’ve been listening to quite a bit of RnB goddesses like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, even Beyonce… I just really wanted to get away from the electronic pop side of things and do something really truly sexy and a bit ’90s RnB,” she told triple j.

“Saturday” is the new hot day of the week thanks to @StephieLecor’ s new single!

Dj Khaled’s We The Best Music released new music from the labels first lady Steph Lecor titled “Saturday” and it is something that just might turn the clubs upside down this summer.
It is bold, independent and something for the ladies. The 808’s kick nicely. Her voice isn’t annoying which many people complain about when it comes to females emcees. But one thing that stood out to us was something she posted up on her social media lately.

She stated, “The moment you realize chasing your dreams chased away all the friends you thought u had… .”

Now anyone who has pursued something wholeheartedly knows that some friends just can’t hold on for the ride. Not everyone understands the sacrifices that have to be made or the fact that you have commitments outside of them. But what we do know is how fast they come back once you do reach that level of success. Our advice to Ms. Lecor is to keep her circle small, nose to the grindstone and we are almost positive this young, bright star will come out on TOP! We look forward to what she has in store. We welcome the First Lady of We The Best to #FemaleFlow!

#NewMusic Video by VP Records @EtanaStrongOne “I Rise”

etana

From VP Records out of FL and Jamaica is Etana latest video “I Rise” directed by Scorpio21. She chose the name Etana, which means ‘the strong one’ in Swahili; her strength was manifested, this time around, by pursuing a musical career strictly on her own terms. Etana’s elegantly modest Rasta-chic sartorial style is as distinctive as her sound: an audacious fusion of folk, soul, jazz and reggae supporting a powerful vocal range suggestive of the ancestral spirit of South Africa’s Miriam Makeba, the regality of reggae queen Marcia Griffiths and the soulful verve of Etta James. “I looked at how women were being represented in (Jamaican) music and how little girls think that is the way it is supposed to be, and I wanted to be a positive influence and change some of the things they are taught,” Etana reflected. Etana has also been an advocate and activist for impoverished children in Jamaica and battered girls through her charity organization the “JUST ONE FOUNDATION”. Etana has been actively offering her services and time to various charity organizations in Jamaica, raising funds toward alleviating the problem of poverty in Jamaican garrison communities. A true ambassador for Reggae music and female in the music industry, she is relentless in spreading her message of “unconditional love” through positive music with the hope of uplifting her audience from any situation that render them weak or hopeless. Prepare yourself for the Etana Experience!
